I went to Fashionweek on Friday. It was interesting. I’d never been before. I went to a show with emerging artists, so it wasn’t the huge fashion icons or anything, but it was fashionweek and it was fashiony so I guess it gave me an idea of what it was all about. I was so uncomfortable going to Fashionweek because I felt the need to be….well….fashionable. I don’t think I embarrassed myself, but I think I would have felt more comfortable in jeans!
The story of GI Fashions at Fashionweek is fascinating. Gertrude McCain was found at her flea market stand on the upper west side in Manhattan. The director of this Fashionweek show saw her work and said that she HAD to be seen and got her into the show. It wasn’t just someone talking garbage, it really happened. So Gertrude’s line appeared in the NY Fame’s Fashionweek show. I can only imagine how much joy Gertrude must have felt in her first show. The last picture of her gleaming as she walks down the runway gives some indication of what she must have been feeling. It was really fun to be there to capture it.
