I recently had a photoshoot with a family in Maplewood, NJ at the park. It was too little girls and their parents. The kids seemed friendly and open to being photographed right from the beginning. Sigh of relief right there. I’ve never had a situation where a child didn’t open up at all during the entire session, but you’ll have even more chances of capturing the child’s energy and personality if they don’t mind being photographed.
These two girls didn’t mind at all. They were hamming it up for me and playing. It reminded me of when I was a kid. I was so energetic they used to call me the Yazmanian Devil. I never sat still. Always on the go, always jumping around, climbing, you name it. As long as I could move. The joy that comes with that kind of freedom of movement is magical. And being reminded of that sometimes is important.
Even if you are doing a photo session with a 2 year old and the parent thinks they are running away from you and frustrating you it’s actually exactly what they are supposed to do. You just have to work with a photographer that lets the kids be themselves and finds a way to engage with them. And if the session calls for the photographer rolling down the hill too, all the better!
Here are some fun photos of some wonderfully energetic and playful girls.
I also put together a video of our time together.
I shot this session with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only), a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
and a Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras. You can use these affiliate links to find out more about and purchase these items on Amazon.com
